In Boston City Council District 9, StreetsPAC Mass endorses Brandon Bowser in this Tuesday’s primary election. Having spent the past five years teaching in BPS schools in Allston-Brighton, Bowser has deep ties to this neighborhood. His campaign touts advocacy for safe and livable streets as a primary focus, together with preservation of the multicultural and artistic elements so central to Allston-Brighton’s community identity. We believe that, as a person living a car-free lifestyle, Bowser has a solid understanding of walking, bicycling, and transit realities in our City. The bike is his primary mode of travel, year-round. We were particularly impressed by his survey-responses emphasizing the importance of traffic-calming, rapid implementation of a protected bike lane network, complete streets, lowering design speeds, and reallocation of streets space from parking to community-enhancing uses such as parklets, bike racks, and restaurant seating. He expresses commitment to streetscapes that are accessible and safe for people of all ages and abilities. We believe Brandon will bring a fresh voice to the Council, with acritically important progressive focus on transportation.
